A close up of Edward's little bunny friend...not THAT kind of bunny! Sheesh!

Rented Room

Update from MD: Here is a bunny outside of my window. I'm renting a room....
with a view! Although I don't have the view, my view is of the yard, but its a great house right on the Potomac river.
Here is a shot of the front of the house from the driveway.

Sleepover (Continued)

This is how the boys finally fell asleep last night. They were really good about being quiet but were awake until about 9 or 9:30...no later than a typical night for Max and Nolen. Hah! The last time they came out, Austin (who had been sleeping on the floor with Nolen) told me that Max was putting his feet in his face. So Max was transferred to my bed. Then Austin came out again and told me that he wanted to go home. (He's so cute - a big softie) We decided that he would try sleeping in Max's bed and I guess that did the trick.

I missed the cutest picture this morning! Austin and Max were snuggled up next to each other and you can't see him, but Bugsy is on Austin's pillow. I really should walk around with the camera in my pocket!

Sunday...

Well, first of all, Edward made it to Maryland today. Yeah! He also got to stop and have brunch in Richmond with his mom, sister Laura and her husband Jeff. He called from the house where he is renting a room and said its really nice. He said that when he got out of his car he could smell the saltwater...she lives right on a river or a bay or something. He said his room has a desk and is twice as big as our bedroom...possibly as big as his old studio apartment in Orlando. He hadn't met the other guys or the landlady yet. I'll be interested to hear how his evening went.

In an effort to keep our lives interesting back here in Alabama, we invited Austin over for a sleepover tonight! He lived across the street from us at Fort Rucker and the boys used to play together a lot but have hardly seen each other since the move. They were having a great time running around and screaming like banshees! After about an hour of this...

They sat down and played some Mario Kart and then we get ready for bed. They EVEN cleaned up the boys' room first! I will give Austin and a cool game I came up with the credit for that because normally the boys won't clean for anything! Not even ice cream. hehe Now they're tucked in and telling "ghost stories". I told them that if they are too loud or rowdy, one of them will have to go sleep in my bed. So far so good. Say a prayer for me!

Also, I caught this picture of Bugsy today. Hilarious! This is the second time I've caught him in this pose but today I was quick with the camera! Caught ya! What a funny old man dog. He's seven years old now! Hard to believe!

That's all for now. Ed will post some pictures of his new digs when he gets a chance - won't you honey :-).

Memememememe Time!

Meme time.
I was tagged for a meme by Katie at House of Payne!

I've never actually been tagged for a meme before, so this will be fun.

1) LAST MOVIE YOU SAW IN A THEATER. Kung Fu Panda with Ed and the kids. It was really funny and we had a great time. I can't wait to take the kids to see Wall-E!

2) WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING? Luckily, I AM reading a book, although I went about 6 months without touching one! Charming Billy. Its ok, I'm more than halfway into it and I'm still waiting for something significant. I don't really know where its going. I also read House of Sand and Fog recently. That book was awesome!

3) FAVORITE BOARD GAME? Trivial Pursuit because I have to think too hard to play Scrabble.

4) FAVORITE MAGAZINE? People I guess or Newsweek.

5) FAVORITE SMELLS? (I stole this from Aubrey) LAUNDRY! There is nothing better than those rare days when it is cool enough to open the windows and you're doing laundry and the fresh smell from the dryer exhaust comes inside. I love it! Also, gotta go with Cilantro. yum!

6) FAVORITE SOUNDS? When I was in high school, I loved the sound of Sebastian's claws on the rocks in The Little Mermaid. When my kids were younger it was the sound of them "talking".

7) WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD? Funny answer: bikini wax (haha it really wasn't that bad - considering!). Real answer: Disappointing someone you love.

8)WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK OF WHEN U WAKE UP? Mmmmm, coffee. And blogging!

9) FAVORITE FAST FOOD PLACE? Subway. They're $5 footlongs worked. I hadn't been there in years and I've been 3x this month.

10) FUTURE CHILD'S NAME? There are no more children in our future...how about a future dog's name? I've always liked Daisy. If we had had a girl, her middle name would have been Cynthia for my mom. My middle name is my Grammy's name...

11) FINISH THIS STATEMENT—"IF I HAD A LOT OF MONEY I’d…This one is really hard. One thing I would love to have though is my whole family nearby...maybe we could all live on a ranch in North Carolina or something - each group in his own house - but close enough to visit and help each other out. Hey, while we're at it, we could grown our own food and maybe have some cows and chickens!

12) DO YOU DRIVE FAST? Fast enough to get a speeding ticket but not fast enough to be noticed (knock on wood).

13) DO YOU SLEEP WITH A STUFFED ANIMAL? Not usually but last night Max started to sleep in my bed and he left Pluto and Eagle (another dog) in there so last night I did.

14) STORMS–COOL OR SCARY? Cool. I love to open a window while its raining and I really missed thunderstorms while we were in Alaska.

15) WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR? An '88 bright blue Formula Firebird with T-tops. I was way cooler than I thought I was. hehe. What were my parents thinking giving me that car to drive when I was 16??? Lucky for them I was a very well behaved and responsible teenager. Right Mom? Dad?

16) FAVORITE DRINK? Diet Coke

17) FINISH THIS STATEMENT-IF I HAD THE TIME I WOULD…Time I have, its money and childcare I need. hehe If I had childcare and the will I would go back to work - teaching. But I'm afraid that between leaving my kids, paying for childcare and still trying to come home and clean and cook and love everyone, it wouldn't be worth it. Maybe when one or both of them start school.

18) DO YOU EAT THE STEMS ON BROCCOLI? Gotta clean my plate but I prefer the florets.

19) IF YOU COULD DYE YOUR HAIR ANY OTHER COLOUR, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR CHOICE? Just the other day I was thinking it would be fun to at least get some highlights. I would dye it blonde again if it didn't take so long to get it back to my natural color.

20) NAME ALL THE DIFFERENT CITIES/TOWNS YOU HAVE LIVED IN.
North Fort Myers, FL
Orlando, FL
Enterprise / Fort Rucker, AL
Fairbanks, AK
(That's an awfully short list for 6 1/2 years in the military!)

21) FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH? Football and gymnastics!

22) ONE NICE THING ABOUT THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU? Katie you are super sweet and you crack me up. I wish our kids had more in common so we could hang out more - Barbara I think I'm jealous of you! hehe

23) WHATS UNDER YOUR BED? Good thing I got this question today and not a week ago because I finally cleaned it out and vacuumed! Still, a good bit of dog hair, a box of winter gear/clothes, probably a bunch of hair ties that have fallen down while I'm sleeping.

24) WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE BORN AS YOURSELF AGAIN? Heck yes!

25) MORNING PERSON OR NIGHT OWL? Definitely a morning person (if I have coffee). The other night, Ed and I went to bed at 9:30!

26) OVER EASY OR SUNNY SIDE UP? Only sunny side up if its part of Eggs Benedict. Yumm-O!

27) FAVORITE PLACE TO RELAX? On a typical day, I like to shower after Jazzercise and lay on my bed doing a crossword puzzle usually til I fall asleep. I have to be in my bedroom because I'm hiding from the kids! Ha! But my REAL favorite place to relax is Aunt Linda's lake house. There is something about that place that makes Edward and I so lazy and drowsy and chilled out. I LOVE it!

29) FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR? Depends on my mood. I just love ice cream! Especially vanilla with a brownie and chocolate sauce!

30) OF ALL THE PEOPLE YOU HAVE TAGGED, WHO IS THE MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND FIRST? Hmmm...not Tara, maybe Amy or Lisa?

Tag- you're it!
Brittany (my sister) at Brittany in Korea
Lisa at Sweet Home Alabama
Tara at Blake's Place
Amy at Adam, Alden and Adalee
Chell at About a Bear
Jennee at The Allan Kids
My Dad at Camp House Project

Putting on his boots for the last time...

Putting on his uniform for the last time. Its kind of weird to think he will NEVER wear that uniform again (knock on wood!)

Dinner at the Yummy Mellow Mushroom!

Why Isn't There A Comedy Troupe of Three Year Olds?

The boys have said some really funny stuff lately and I've been meaning to blog it. Luckily tonight I was already at the computer when Max and I had this conversation...
Max: Mommy, Bugsy has a candy wrapper in his mouth!
Me: OK, I'll get it in a minute (I was very busy playing Jewel Quest).
Max: But Mom, you have to get it now! Why are you still playing your game?
Me: ugh...because...
Max: Mom? Are you going to kill Bugsy?
Me: What? No? (And no longer playing my game) What are you talking about?
Max: Are you going to kill Bugsy because he ate my candy?
Me: No.
Max: Oh. But I don't like Bugsy. He stinks. Parts of him are black and they look like poop.

I would like to defend Max by saying it is bedtime and he is very tired tonight. But where on earth did this come from???

Here are some more things the boys have said...
Last night we had dinner at the Mellow Mushroom before Ed left for Maryland. While we were there, Max took a sip of his Sprite and made a kissy face and turned to Ed. Ed gave him a kiss but Max still had a kissy face. He wanted to give Ed "Sprite Mouth to Mouth" I guess. Where do they get this stuff???

Another Max moment...Nolen had a fever and threw up on Thursday night. I panicked. I have bad memories of the boys being 6 months and 21 months old and BOTH having the pukies right after Ed left for Iraq. They had no way to tell me WHEN they were going to puke and no control over WHERE! It was rough! Anyway, when Nolen threw up I had flashbacks and as I was furiously trying to clean it up and washing my hands every 2 minutes, Max kept following me everywhere. I was getting frustrated because I didn't want Max to be exposed to whatever his brother had (although its a tough transition for boys that very often use the same toothbrush because I don't want to hear them argue over whose is whose). We tried to explain to Max that Nolen had germs. Then Max didn't want Nolen to touch him because he didn't want the germs. So we explained that germs are in your spit and snot so you have to sneeze on someone or share a cup to catch their germs. Well, when we took Nolen's temperature yesterday it was 98.6. Max happily announced, "Yay! Nolen can lick people again!" (I know that was a long story, but the punchline is worth it.)

5 Things I Haven't Blogged Yet

Sorry, I know I haven't blogged in a week but its been pretty quiet around here. Edward was in Huntsville last week for a Chinook conference and the kids and I were just hanging out. This is our last week with Ed before he takes off for his new job in MD. He isn't "working" this week just running errands to clear post and stuff. It will be nice to spend time all together before he goes to start his new job but it throws me off to not have a real routine. Its ok though, its just one week! Here are some of the highlights of the last week.

1. I found a lump in my breast a couple of weeks ago and had it checked out Monday and an ultrasound Tuesday. The radiologist said it was just breast tissue AND he called me skinny so it turned out to be a good day on Tuesday. hehe I was nervous about it but not really scared. I should be low risk (nursing kids, no maternal history of breast cancer) and my Grammy has had several lumps removed. It was a relief to get that over with. When we got to Flowers Hospital in Dothan, I told Nolen that he was born there. He told me, "Mom, I didn't like getting born." (This made me think of Jennee) I asked him why and he said it hurt. I told him that the doctor didn't do anything to him. He asked, "oh, just to you?" I said yes and then he decided he didn't mind getting born.

2. Max wants me to buy him some "cokaly coco muffs" cereal. He saw them on TV and they make everything chocolate! He asked me how much they cost and he wants to go to the store and buy them! Ha!

3. I wish my camera battery had not been dead the day we counted all of the money in the boys' crayon bank. Nolen saw a kid playing Lego Indiana Jones on a DS at the doctor's office and he wanted the game for the Wii.
Mom: It costs $50 and you doesn't have a birthday coming up.
Nolen: I have ten thousand monies in my piggy bank.
Mom: I don't think you have 10,000 dollars. If you do, I want to borrow it! hehe!!
We came home and I had the boys sort all the coins. Then I explained that four quarters make a dollar so Nolen started making stacks of four quarters and counting how many dollars he had. He was getting SO excited! In the end, he had enough to buy the game, which we did and he loves it! It IS a pretty cool game. We also watched Raiders of the Lost Ark on TV and it was cool because the game follows the movie pretty well and Nolen liked watching it. Don't worry, he was asleep by the super scary end!

4. We made Daddy a Chinook cake before he came home on Thursday. It looked better before I iced it. haha! I got lazy and didn't go to Wal-Mart to get black licorice for rotor blades and a red gummy bear (ed's call sign was Red Bear 22) but it still came out all right. I'm slowly getting better at the cake thing.

5. Nolen told me he wanted a wall of his bedroom painted green so that he could draw on it like at the Byrd Nest. He wanted a chalkboard wall. I told him we might be able to do that at the new house but until then, I got out my giant white board. I bought it in college to do math problems on - see I was saving paper and being green way back then!! Anyway, the boys have had a blast drawing, doodling and writing words on it. I decided it would be fun to play Pictionary Jr with the boys but Wal-Mart didn't have it so I made it. It wasn't fancy but the boys LOVED it! It kept their attention longer than ours! Max and I did most of the drawing. Max drew a snake, Mickey Mouse, grapes, and pizza to name a few. Nolen drew Lightning McQueen, and broccoli. It was a lot of fun!

Summer is officially here!

This past week (sorry I'm playing blog catch up) the boys and I went to the pool three times! I would have gone more if gas wasn't $4 a gallon! I need to check the times on the E'prise pool. Anyway, here is a video of Max jumping in. Max is great in the water! I told him he was a fish. I asked him if his name was Nemo. He said, "No. My name is Di-nee." I don't know where he got this made up name, but now its Max's fish name.

A Visit From Old Friends

This weekend we were lucky enough to get a visit from some of our Alaska friends! The DiMarco's came over to play! Amy grew up here in Enterprise and they were here for a few days on their way to the beach. It was so fun to catch up and let the boys play. Well, I guess "catch up" isn't exactly what we did. We've stayed "in touch" reading each others blogs! I love those friends that you can just pick back up with.

Nolen and Adam are less than a month apart in age. Alden is five months younger than Max. The boys warmed up to each other again and had a good time playing. We even busted out the Wii at the end of the evening.

Thanks for stopping to visit us guys! We had a lot of fun!

Swimming

We had a great weekend...it was the first time in awhile that Edward wasn't out of town and didn't have school work to do. We spent a lot of quality time together and it was great. On Saturday we cooked a big breakfast (complete with fresh eggs I bought at the farmer's market - a little too fresh, two of them were red inside!), we found and played with a turtle I found in the street. His shell was about 8 inches across. Edward put him in the backyard but we haven't seen him since. And we went to the pool at Fort Rucker. We spent a lot of time there last summer and it was nice to go back. The boys had fun and spent some time without their water wings. Max liked going under the water but of course Nolen didn't because the water got in his eyes. When will he grow out of that???

Water Fun

This post is a mish mash of the last week of playing outside...

Here are a few videos of the boys playing in the front yard. We got a slip n slide for Nolen's birthday -thanks Nana! I LOVE it! Max thinks its cool...Nolen is kind of a chicken. Check out the video.

We also found a lizard outside and the boys enjoyed playing with him. I promise I didn't let it go on for too long before we let him go. It was just funny to hear them laugh so hard! Please don't send PETA after me.

And finally, the boys were playing in the pool on Friday while I cleaned up the garage a little and did some weeding and even some edging. I was still finishing up when they wanted to get out of the pool so I wrapped each one in a towel and sent them inside to take off their swimsuits and put on dry clothes. This is how I found Max when I came inside about 15 minutes later. At least he got his wet bathing suit off!

Byrd Nest Party

Last week the boys had their end of the year party at the big park in town. The preschool did a great job organizing everything. There were snacks and drinks and it was early enough in the day that it wasn't too hot. The teachers asked that all of the kids wear their green field trip shirts. Well, after our field trip to the strawberry patch I knew I had to do something to help me find my own green monsters. When there are 30 kids running around in green shirts, it is almost impossible to keep track of two of them! So they wore their Mario hats! It was perfect! I could spot them from across the playground!

Look at that cool kid with his hat on backwards!

Last Day of Preschool and Graduation!

The boys had a great year at the Byrd's Nest preschool. We met some wonderful friends and both boys loved their teachers. We'll miss ya'll next year!

The boys ready for their last day of school!

The elaborate cake at graduation...its all fondant icing and it was quite large!

From left to right: Sue Byrd (owner), Miss Tracy (Nolen's primary teacher) and Miss Hannah (the other 4-year-old teacher).

Nolen hugging Miss Hannah :-)

This is the quilt that the teachers had made for Sue Byrd. It was a really neat idea! Each square is a picture made out of each child's handprint! Nolen's is the frog in the middle. What a great idea!

Some of the graduates on stage in the caps and gowns. The graduation ceremony was quite elaborate for a preschool! They gave each child a diploma, a memory book, a gift at the park the next day, two books, a magnet for the car...it was like one of those birthday parties that is over the top! They are a very sweet group of ladies. We were lucky that such a great preschool was so close to our house!
